Your Allure needs graphic design wizardry!!!

Hey all!

Maria Ramirez would LOVE for some of our super, awesome, wonderful SIGGRAPHers to approach her in interest to help her redesign the Your Allure website.  Check it out now at www.your-allure.com.  She is looking to spice up the design as she moves to add a wordpress digital magazine.

I know so many of you rock at the photoshop/illustrator, so who wants to help?  The design would also be translated into merchandise and apparel.

This is an awesome opportunity and a great cross-club effort.  If you are interested, please contact Maria Ramirez @ yourallure@gmail.com or talk to me (Leah) at the next SIGGRAPH meeting.

Tsuss!

Leah

9/16 Meeting

September 19, 2009

Twas another glorious day (Wednesday) as we all squeezed ourself into room 202, the room Webster Siggraph calls home. I was personally really happy to see a lot of new faces that might have been at the first meeting but those computers can be so tall sometimes… anyway…

First off, after submitting what funding we needed for the semester we were so gloriously gifted 99% of our funding. I shall miss that 1% of approximately $22. That’s 22 jack in the box tacos man! But this is great news none the less.

Then for everyone, and I mean everyone, there is going to be the Webster Film Festival coming up soon. This will be located at the Wini Moore on Sunday at 7:30. There will be a showing of a very old but hilarious stop motion film “The Cameraman’s Revenge” which features forbidden love and bugs. Yea!

Then right below this message is a very tasty and quite large picture of a burger patty sizzling upon a grill ready to be eaten by… could this be? Siggraph BBQ time! Saturday the 19th will be Webster Siggraph’s amazing Potluck BBQ. You may and should bring along any games, any side dishes and desserts, and something to swim in if you would like to. If you are to bring any food Leah and Michele would like to know what’s coming to just send a message their way. It will be a load of fun so come along and enjoy tasty food.

And you thought the news couldn’t get any better, it can! Next Thursday, the 24th, we are going to trek out to the Creve Coure AMC theatre and watch “9″ at 9:40 pm, whoo! If you would like to go, and why not, then you need to let someone on the board know that you’re going to make it so we need to know how many people are going to make it. There will also be carpooling at the UC around 9ish… haha, 9ish.

But wait, there’s more! It has just been announced that if you are knowledgeable in RSS feeds and would like this very website to be a part of that, then you can! Just use the little RSS feed button next to the address bar and bam! Now some more exclamation points! Bam!

And if you act now, we have a special offer, litty itty Kine Committee, or just Kine Committee. This is the Kinematifest Committee known for helping throw together the best show of the year, Kinematifest! The show isn’t happening ’til April but we need help starting it up as soon as possible, so if you’re interested then please contact Leah or Michele. Don’t worry, they don’t bite. I think.

We did get a notice from Paul, one of our lovely professors, that there will be positions open for Illustrator (Adobe) tutors. This will be sort of like free lance work and it would work with your schedule. There was a sheet you could sign that did go around but if you missed it or like to shy away from signing things in public and are interested then please just ask somebody on the board, we’ll put your name on the list.

Also, there is some website/design work for the computer club that has been brought to our attention. Adam Bennetneeds a team or people to help him out with the website. There will be more information on this soon so if you’re interested, keep an eye out for it.

About Security again, the people of room 202 and Campus Security have seemed to not see eye to eye on when the room is open. Room 202 is open all times but 7:30-8:30 am. If you are told to leave at any other time or can’t get in the room, go down to the media center and they will help you out.

But wait, there’s even more! Chris Sagovac added some things of his own. First being that in November there will be a yearly meeting with the Daniels Webster Society, who is that you say? Only the biggest donator to Webster. So, Webster this year will be putting together videos of each program and Chris wants to put together a video of an actor doing something simple such as picking up a box and then show quickly how we turn it into animation, like magic!

Then there’s Zombies… Zombies vs. Skaters to be exact. Chris knows a guy who is in pre-production of a video of “Zombies vs. Skaters” or something along those lines. He needs people with basic aftereffects skills to do such things as moving things across the screen. And who wouldn’t want to animate a 360 Ollie into a crowd of hungry Zombies?

And to top it off, you can even watch Chris show off his painting skills on the 26th of September. Chris is going to be doing action painting to a video while “pimping his own stuff”. That’s right, that is a direct quote. It will start at 9:00 and I really hope you go and see it. To get an idea of what he can do, his website is chrissagovac.com and it is quite flattering to say the least.

To keep up with the times, even Siggraph has to dabble in a little bit of technology. So if you want to make Siggraph more of a part of you life, I know I do, then go ahead and find us on Facebook or even through Twitter so we can all tweet about the status that someone commented on about another tweet from a Webster Siggraph tweeter.

And then after all of our announcements, Lesley Heyer showed us all a glimpse into how she creates such amazing Illustrator drawings by going through a few steps on a bullet. I don’t know about the rest of you but I think I was a little flattered. It was quite informative and a really great tutorial, nice job Lesley.

If you have now made it to the bottom of this weeks minutes, pat yourself on the back because you made it. That was the meeting. Really. So, make sure you’re back for another meeting on the 30th, just after you do things such as watch “9″ and Chris “pimping his own stuff”. This was the 9/16 Meeting notes, and I’m out.

9/2 Meeting

September 2, 2009

Upon the second day of the ninth month of 2009, Webster’s Siggraph met for the first time in a very long time. In the first order of business, we all were informed by our gracious president, Leah Bend, that calling us Siggraph caused quite a bit of confusion because it is the name of the yearly convention, Siggraph. So, we will now be titled by the title “Webster Siggraph”.

Shortly after we were informed that two positions on the Webster Siggraph board were open. After a thorough and tedious selection and voting process, Matt Sherry, the person typing this out, is now the new Secretary and Zach Haugen is now in our Marketing/PR position and Matt Peirce is now appointed to the newly made position, Media Supervisor. Congratulations to them all.

At the meeting there was a sheet to fill out including spaces for you to vote for what movies, speakers, and what tutorials were going to be presented at future meetings. If you didn’t complete it, please e-mail it to Webster Siggraph’s e-mail. If you missed out on this, feel left out, andwant your vote in, don’t worry. We still like you enough that we would probably tell you to talk with Leah, Tim, or Michele to figure it out. On a side note, the Webster Siggraph barbeque will be coming shortly. It will probably be at Michele’s house and in only a few weeks so keep your ears open for such notices.

Chris Sagovac, the head of the animation department, added that September 11th at 1:00 pm Ryan Wells will be presenting his senior overview project in room 101 and awesomeness will pursue, so be there. Chris has told us all that room 202 will be open 23 hours a day, anytime but between 7:30 – 8:30 am, and if there is any trouble with the security be nice and do what they say. Then e-mail him about the situation.

For anybody that is interested, Chris wants to start up an open studio every Friday around 10:00-4:00 in room 202. This will be a place where everyone can show their current work, crituque each other or just plain work along with many other surprises that might sneak in.

You might have already read this upon the front page but I think it might need saying again. Zach Haugen and Matt Kay both worked on an awesome project over the summer called Prodigal. It will be shown at Forest Park this Thursday through Saturday and next week at the same times. If you want more information, which you should, go to www.prodigal3003.org.

To endthe meeting, whoever was lucky enough sat around and watched animations from the New Orlean’s Siggraph convention. I advise, that if you’re in any way interested in watching animation, this is something you must go see.

And for the September 2nd meeting, I’m out.
