Comments (0)If you missed out, this was the Webster Siggraph Halloween meeting. And you missed out on quite a bit of candy, delicious candy and cookies.
But, down to business. A first reminder, registration starts next week. If that snuck up on you, don’t worry, you’re not the only one. As usual, seniors get the first go at classes and then it goes down the seniority from there. Also, if you have Linda Williams as your advisor you have now been reminded to go and schedule a meeting with her, if you already haven’t. She’s full for appointments at the moment but she’s accepting drop-ins at 5:00 pm.
I’m hoping most of you went to the internship fair because it was quite an awesome turnout, I swear animation and INTM students were coming out of the woodworks, there were a lot. Thank you all for coming out to it and I hope to see a bunch of you head out to the next one, next year.
Big news, Blizzard’s lead recruiter is coming to give a talk on Thursday, November 12th, from 12:30 to 3:00 in the library conference room. She’s coming to talk about the industry and things to help you get in the business and stay in the business. There will be an RSVP so keep your eyes out for any more news on the subject, it’s gonna be sweet.
We now know who our key note speaker is going to be for Kinematifest! Kristen DiFate’s uncle, which we did not get a name, is coming in to speak from his wealth of knowledge. He’s worked on things such as “The Creature from the Black Lagoon” and done a lot of concept art for many films like it. There’s also going to be a projection of “This Planet Earth”.
On November 14th, Wash U’s Siggraphis holding a “Meet the Faculty” with a few of their computer science professors. It’s going to be from 11:00 to 3:15. If you’re interested, there is more information up on Wash U’s website.
And for all you photoshop fans, there’s going to be an awesome one day seminar coming up on November 13th. Some of the top names in the photoshop world is going to give you the tips and tricks from the down and dirty about anything and everything photoshop. If your interested, which you should be, you can find more information at www.kelbytraininglive.com.
And finally, we checked out some amazing pumpkin carvings. Just about anything from alien to the statue of liberty has been done by this guy. There all laying around for you to see at www.pumkingutter.com.
Then we finished it off with Monster Vs. Aliens’ Halloween special, “Mutant Pumpkins from Outer Space”. It was quite a fun day and I hope to see you all in the next meeting.
P.S. it was Michele’s birthday. So if you haven’t said happy birthday, chase her down and do that for me.

Comments (0)Guess what, it’s another Webster Siggraph meeting! No way!
Ok, so first order of business, Kinematifest has announced this year’s theme, 50′s Sci-Fi (insert twilight zone song here). It’s going to be quite awesome. And if your still, or just recently, interested in helping out just send an e-mail to Webster Siggraph’s e-mail (wusiggraph@gmail.com)
And for all you Flickr fans out there, Webster Siggraph is going up in a short time. If you’re interested in showing some of your work, e-mail it to Webster Siggraph and you might want to put a little message reminding us of what it’s for. It’s also advised, but not mandatory, to put some sort of marking on it to show it’s yours. Putting your work up on Flickr doesn’t give others permission to use it, but it’s good to mark it just in case.
On Wednesday, October 28th, Webster is going to be holding an Internship Expo from 11:00 – 1:00pm. Even if it’s your freshman year and think it might be too early, it’s never to early. Please go and check this amazing opportunity out. For the first time there are going to be people looking for interns in the field of animation. Now, as Chris Sagovac pointed out, even if you don’t have a resume or any work at all go talk to these guys. First off, you’ll learn some awesome stuff about how their business runs and what their looking for and secondly, if they don’t talk to anyone this year, they won’t be back next year. Now, if you do have a resume, it’s highly advised to go and talk to Mindy Berkowitz. She’s helped many people with resumes and now she’s accepting walk-ins on mondays and tuesdays. So let’s go ring in some jobs! Whoo!
Kristen DiFate gave an announcement about “Visionaries of the Virtual”. This is going to be the first time Webster’s INTM is going to be putting work up on the Small Wall Gallery. The Advanced Digital Aesthetics class worked their butts of and their work will be up November 6th – 25th and it’s gonna be awesome, I promise that. Seriously, it’s going to be so cool, I want you to go and be amazed at the opening reception on November 6th from 5-7pm. Also… free food. Come on, you know you want to.
And some very interesting/amazing/awesome news. Webster might be hosting a recruiter from Blizzard Entertainment in the near future. For all of you people that are interested in games (even if not Blizzard… somehow) keep and eye out for this opportunity. There will definitely be more news when we hear about it.
And to finish of the meeting Esma gave a wonderful tutorial on ZBrush with the last few years of her personal knowledge on the subject. It was nice enough that if you see her again, just say thank you.
P.s. If you haven’t noticed, we have a new logo (that swishy circle thing). Haha, made you look! No, I’m serious, it’s new and fancy looking. Go check it out.

Ghosts, ghouls, and goblins… oh my! With Halloween just around the corner, a favorite holiday for many deviants, Fella is preparing to eat a ton of candy, carve multiple jack-o-lanterns, and most importantly… decide on his Halloween costume. And that’s where you come in! DeviantART is proud to present Fella’s Halloween Contest!
We’ve made Fella’s Halloween Contest as inclusive as possible. The contest is open to ALL deviantART members (United States residents, non-United States residents, zombies, witches, warlocks, vampires, and so on). Additionally, because we want to maximize participation and allow artists of all mediums to enter, there are three ways to take part in the contest. You can enter as many times as you want, in multiple categories, but can only win once.
For more information visit the deviantArt news page about the contest.

A new page has been added to wusiggraph.com under “Links.”
This page will link to various job postings. Currently it is a list of company logos linking to said companies job posts on creativeheads.net. The logo list will be updated as more job postings become available.
While this page will serve as a great resource, registering for the Heads Up newsletter at creativeheads.net is a great idea to get up to date job postings delivered directly to your email.
If anyone wants to take the time to organize this page more let us know. It is planned to be formatted in friendlier viewing format over Fall Break, but the job is open to anyone who would like to tackle it sooner.

Feel free to add a watermark to any images you submit. Make sure any watermarks do not take away from the image. The proper use of a watermark is to protect your images from being claimed by other people. Yahoo!/Flickr respect the intellectual property of their users, but no matter where you post your work online (even on your own personal website) there are those who will not respect your rights. Believe me, adding a watermark will be a lot easier than taking the perpetrator to court. If you make a watermark we would prefer it to be in the lower right corner (as shown in the image below. We will accept it regardless of size and placement. Please also make it semi-transparent.

Any images submitted without a watermark will be given a pre-made/generic Webster SIGGRAPH one in the lower right corner. The general watermark is NOT the one shown in the image above, it will be one showing that the piece was created by a member of Webster SIGGRAPH and belongs to said member not the organization. All intellectual property remains with you, the creator, at all times. By submitting work you are not giving away your property rights to Webster SIGGRAPH, Yahoo!, or Flickr. You are giving the right to post and publicize your work only.
Any images posted to the Flickr account will also be featured in a slideshow to appear on the website showcasing your various talents.
We hope you consider showing off some of your awesome work! As previously stated, all property rights remain with you, we only want to showcase the great things we know you are capable of.
