Portfolio / jQuery Tutorial

November 13, 2009

Hey guys,

Originally I was planning to have this posted yesterday.  Sorry for the delay.  In case you missed the tutorial I gave Wednesday night on basic coding and jQuery I wanted to post the download link.

Go to http://wusiggraph.com/siggraph/tutorial/jquery.zip in order to download the files you need.

Inside the “files” folder there will be a .pdf file of the entire tutorial printout from Wednesday night.

The final version of the tutorial should look like this: http://wusiggraph.com/siggraph/tutorial/jquery_final/

If you have any questions or comments please email me or post them in response to this post.

Meeting 11/11

November 12, 2009

Hello and it’s time for another Webster Siggraph meeting. Well, at least it was…

First thing first, as noted on the front page, Blizzard is coming on this Thursday and I know I’m really excited for it. The head recruiter is coming to speak and this is a great opportunity to hear someone in the business speak, especially from a successful person who works at a very successful business. I don’t care if you’re into games or not, if what you want to do is in the tiniest way resembling the game business then go to it and hear the words of wisdom. I know I”m going to be there, it’s from 12:30 to 3:00 in the Library Conference room.

Also, more awesome news, Animagic is accepting people for intern interviews immediately. They are specifically wanting people who can animate in CG but are up for taking anybody. If you are interested about this awesome internship email either Darren Clifton (dclifton@aniprod.com) or Brain Roach (broach@animagicinc.com). If you have a website give them the address but if not, put your work on a CD and get ready to show it off.

Also to the Kine’ Committee, we have another meeting coming up at the same time on this coming Wednesday. Remember we’ve got a little bit of our own homework to do. It’s going to be an awesome meeting again and I hope to see everyone with some awesome ideas.

If you haven’t been wandering around the May Gallery lately (the gallery on the top floor of Sverdrup) there is some top quality work showing from our very own Advanced Digital Aesthetics class taught by the awesome Kristen DiFate. The students from the class have put up their work and it’s amazingly awesome. If you haven’t gone to see it, just go take a peek when you’ve got a few minutes, you’ll like it. I know these things.

Chris did tell us some sweet news, there is one class that is not filling at the moment and it can be taken in place of Audio I, Voicing Your Creation. This class is going to be required next year so if your not a senior you might want to get your hands on this class. It’s a class about how to have your animated characters act when speaking and then some technical aspects of how. The class will mainly focus on acting with a voice, which is pretty sweet in my opinion. I know I’m going to sign up for it.

And to finish off the day, Michele Nunrup, gave a short tutorial that scratched the surface of coding a website in jQuery. It was a very helpful tutorial and for all you code nerds out there it was probably that much more awesome. Michele, you did a great job. But my brain hurt…

About the Event:

Kriste Stull from Blizzard Entertainment will give Webster University students an inside look of what it is like to work in the video game industry, at Blizzard Entertainment specifically, and what it takes to get employed there.

Our speaker, Kriste Stull, is a 6 year video game industry veteran and Lead Recruiter for Blizzard Entertainment. Prior to working at Blizzard Entertainment, Kriste was employed by Electronic Arts, another highly successful video game company. She was initially hired as University Relations Manager for EA-Los Angeles and then promoted to Senior Recruiter where she was responsible for hiring for all facets of development-art, design and engineering. Prior to working for Electronic Arts, Kriste was a University Liaison at the University of Advancing Technology (UAT) where she worked closely with the gaming industry to bring game companies and professionals to the UAT campus for tech forums. UAT grooms students specifically to go into gaming and digital animation fields. Students have only a vague notion of what goes on at a video game company, what it takes to work there, and what it takes to get hired there. The video game industry is a very discerning and demanding one and Kriste’s presentation will provide an invaluable opportunity for students who wish to pursue a career in this field.

Best known for blockbuster hits including World of Warcraft® and the Warcraft®, StarCraft®, and Diablo® series, Blizzard Entertainment is a premier developer and publisher of entertainment software renowned for creating some of the industry’s most critically acclaimed games. Blizzard Entertainment’s track record includes eleven #1-selling games and multiple Game of the Year awards. In April 2008, World of Warcraft was estimated to hold 62 percent of the massively multiplayer online game (MMOG) subscription market.
